Types of Scars Treated

Our treatments are effective for various types of scars, including:

From surgeries or treatments related to cancer. Scar tissue treatment is a crucial component of recovery for oncology patients, particularly for those who have undergone radiotherapy and surgery – and its often a forgotten option! Radiotherapy often leads to fibrosis, where excessive connective tissue forms, causing stiffness, pain, and reduced blood flow that can impair healing and limit movement.

Surgical scars, especially from procedures like mastectomies, can also restrict mobility, lead to chronic pain, and contribute to lymphedema due to disrupted lymphatic drainage. At Achieve Health, our specialised scar tissue treatments are designed to address these issues comprehensively. Through techniques such as manual therapy, myofascial release, and targeted exercises, we break down and realign scar tissue, which helps reduce pain, improve flexibility and increase range of motion.

This enhances circulation, promoting better tissue health and faster recovery – whilst also reducing the risk of long-term complications. Additionally, improving the mobility of scar tissue can prevent the formation of adhesions, which can cause further complications and discomfort. Treatment can also reduce sensitivity, sensation changes and itching. This comprehensive care is vital for oncology patients to achieve optimal recovery and maintain their health and vitality post-treatment.

Scar tissue treatment can crucial for the recovery of patients following surgeries such as joint replacements, C-sections, or cosmetic procedures. Post-surgical scars can present significant medical challenges, including restricted movement, chronic pain, and aesthetic concerns. These scars can lead to adhesions, where the scar tissue binds to underlying tissues, causing stiffness and limiting the range of motion.

At Achieve Health, our specialised scar tissue treatments are designed to address these issues comprehensively. Using advanced techniques like manual therapy, myofascial release, and targeted exercises, we work to break down and realign scar tissue. This process helps to reduce pain, improve flexibility, and enhance circulation, which is crucial for tissue health and faster recovery. By softening and mobilising the scar tissue, we can prevent the formation of adhesions that can lead to further complications and discomfort.

For patients who have undergone joint replacements, effective scar management is essential to decrease stiffness and restore full function and mobility to the affected joint. For those recovering from C-sections, scar tissue treatment can alleviate pain and improve diaphragmatic and abdominal muscle function. In cases of cosmetic surgeries, our approach not only addresses physical discomfort but also focuses on aesthetic outcomes, helping to minimize the visibility of scars and improve skin appearance.

Treating scar tissue can be of large benefit for patients recovering from traumatic injuries caused by accidents or injuries. These scars can create significant medical challenges, such as restricted movement, chronic pain, and aesthetic concerns. Traumatic scars often result in adhesions, where the scar tissue binds to underlying tissues, causing stiffness and limiting the range of motion, which affects overall muscle and joint function.

At Achieve Health, we offer specialised scar tissue treatments designed to address these complex issues comprehensively. This includes addressing both the physical and aesthetic aspects of scar tissue, helping to minimize visibility and improve skin texture.
Our advanced techniques, including manual therapy, myofascial release, and targeted exercises, work to break down and realign scar tissue. This approach helps to alleviate pain, improve flexibility, and enhance circulation, which is essential for tissue health and expedited recovery. By softening and mobilizing scar tissue, we can prevent adhesions that lead to further complications and discomfort whilst also making visual changes to the scar. Our comprehensive care at Achieve Health also includes patient education on self-care techniques to maintain skin health and prevent future issues.

Which can be particularly challenging due to their depth and severity.

Burn scars, alongside visual changes, can lead to significant medical challenges, including restricted movement, chronic pain, and compromised skin integrity. These scars, particularly hypertrophic and keloid scars, can cause tightness and contractures, limiting the range of motion and affecting the function of underlying muscles and joints.

At Achieve Health, our specialised scar tissue treatments are tailored to address these complex issues effectively. Through techniques such as manual therapy, myofascial release, and targeted exercises, we work to break down and realign scar tissue. This process not only helps to reduce pain and improve flexibility but also promotes better circulation, essential for tissue health and faster recovery. By softening and flattening the scar tissue, which can have visual benefits, we can also significantly enhance skin mobility and prevent the formation of contractures that can lead to further complications. Our comprehensive care for burn scars includes patient education on self-care techniques to maintain skin health.

Scar Treatment at Achieve Health is lead by our Clinical Lead Alice Conquest as she has a specialist interest and a Masters in Trauma Science, but all our therapists are highly trained to deliver this service.

Scar Tissue Treatment

The body produces scar tissue as a natural reaction to damage; scar tissue forms as a result of burns, accidents, surgery, or other traumas. Scar tissue is necessary for healing, but it can cause discomfort, stiffness, and decreased movement. It frequently has less flexibility and is thicker than the surrounding skin, which raises both functional and cosmetic issues.
The body creates collagen to heal wounds caused by damage to the skin. Scar tissue is formed when this collagen develops erratically. Scar tissue is less elastic and denser than normal tissue, which can cause discomfort and limit movement. Untreated scar tissue can eventually attach itself to underlying tendons and muscles, reducing mobility and producing persistent pain.
So our goal in treating scar tissue is to enhance not only the way scars look but also our patients’ general quality of life and function. Sessions can significantly improve scar quality by converting painful, inflexible scar tissue to softer, more malleable tissue.

I’ve had appointments with both Alex and Emily at Edgbaston/Moseley and have been amazed by the improvement since beginning with them. They have been able to both relieve muscle pain/tightness whilst giving me a bespoke training plan to improve my future health. I would certainly recommend them.

I have been having treatment from Jezzi for for a couple of years now for different issues. She is able to pinpoint the areas causing the issues and work on them with long term plans to prevent them from reappearing. I have seen different physios over many years but I have to say her treatment is the best for me.

I have been going for physiotherapy at Achieve (Edgbaston) for over 4 years and continue to do so. I have seen Rickie, Jezzy and Mitzi. They are all great. Achieve was recommended to me and I have recommended them to others seeking out a physiotherapist. Definitely give them a try if you are looking for a physio.

‘Highly recommending’ Achieve Health may be a massive understatement… I am currently seeing Rickie and Beth for Physiotherapy and deep tissue work and I am super impressed! Not only are they both immensely knowledge and professional, but the teamwork between them also means my sessions are specific, targeted and I am always aware of the steps needed in my rehabilitation, which I have not experienced at other physiotherapy establishments! Having a gym where they can show and watch my rehab exercises is also a massive plus for me! Thanks Achieve!!!!

Just over a year ago I decided to finally see a physio after 6months of back pain at 25! I couldn't stand up properly, sit down or lie down. I went to see Jezzie and she pretty quickly narrowed down the possibilities and got to work. Over the past year she's methodically brought me back to my best, something i've not felt for a few years, and offered plenty of exercises/workout plans to continue on my own. Now I go for maintenance appointments every quarter. Jezzie is conversational and knows her job and physiotherapy like the back of her hand, she has fountain of knowledge which puts me at ease as a client.
