Our Unique Approach: The Multifaceted Treatment Model That Gets Results
At our Birmingham & Solihull based practices, we believe in a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach to treatment that tackles the root causes of pain and discomfort, not just the symptoms. Whether you’ve been dealing with an issue for months or even years, we’re confident that our methods can help you achieve significant, long-term improvement—often where other treatments may have failed.
Want to know the story behind it? Keep on reading.
The key components of a comprehensive and effective treatment strategy should include:
Rest from Aggravating Activities
We always start by ensuring your body has the time and space to heal. Rest doesn’t mean doing nothing—it’s about avoiding activities that make your symptoms worse, while keeping you active in a way that supports recovery.
- Why rest matters: Continuing painful activities can worsen tissue damage and inflammation. Resting allows your body to reduce stress on the injured area and begin healing.
- Active rest: We recommend non-aggravating exercises like gentle stretching or mobility work, cardio vascular exercise and non-aggravating strength work to keep blood circulating, aid recovery, and maintain fitness without making your injury worse.
Deep Soft Tissue Massage and Myofascial Release
The next step in our treatment approach focuses on improving soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament, fascia) health through deep tissue massage and myofascial release. These techniques are highly effective in reducing pain and restoring mobility.
- Relieves muscle tension: Massage helps to reduce tightness and restrictions in your muscles, helping you move more easily and with less pain.
- Improves circulation: Better blood flow brings vital nutrients and oxygen to damaged tissues, promoting healing.
Improves scar tissue: If previous injuries have caused scar tissue, these techniques can decongest the tissues, increase nutrient delivery, improve scar tissue quality/resilience and restore flexibility and function.
Joint Mobilisation and Manipulation
Healthy joints are the foundation of movement. With joint mobilisations and manipulations, we restore normal movement in stiff or dysfunctional joints, helping you regain full mobility.
- Restores mobility: Joints that aren’t functioning properly can cause you to compensate with other areas of your body, which often leads to more problems. By restoring proper joint function, we reduce compensations and abnormal movements.
- Increases flexibility: Regular mobilisation reduces stiffness and improves flexibility, which leads to a more comfortable and pain-free life.
- Reduces pain: Dysfunctional joints are often a key source of pain. By improving their movement, we help reduce pain caused by stiffness and immobility.
Biomechanics and Holistic Movement
A major part of our success comes from our deep understanding of biomechanics. For every client we work with in Birmingham and Solihull, we assess how their body moves and identify any mechanical issues that could be contributing to their pain or injury.
- Lower limb biomechanics: We carefully assess the foot, ankle, knee, and hip to identify movement problems. For example, conditions like overpronation or flat feet can lead to issues further up the body, such as knee or back pain.
- Orthotics: For some clients, we prescribe custom orthotics to correct the foot’s mechanics, reducing strain on the lower limbs and improving overall function.
- Upper body mechanics: For upper limb or back problems, we evaluate posture and movement during activities like sitting, standing, or gym exercises to optimise mechanics and reduce strain.
- Why biomechanics matter: If your body isn’t moving correctly, you’re likely putting extra stress on certain areas. Optimising your biomechanics reduces this stress and prevents long-term damage.
Strength, Control, and Stability
Once your pain is managed and your joints are moving freely, we move on to strength and stability training. The goal is to strengthen key muscles and improve overall control and balance.
- Strengthening weak areas: After an injury, certain muscles may weaken or become underused. Our tailored exercises help rebuild muscle strength to support your recovery.
- Improving stability: Strengthening stabiliser muscles, especially around the spine, pelvis, and shoulder complex, helps prevent re-injury and supports long-term health.
- Reducing future risk: By ensuring your body moves correctly and your muscles are strong, we help reduce the likelihood of future problems.
Additional Interventions for Enhanced Recovery
For clients in Birmingham, Solihull, and surrounding areas who need extra support, we offer advanced treatments to speed up recovery and enhance healing. These include:
- Acupuncture: Acupuncture can help reduce pain, boost circulation, and decrease inflammation in targeted areas.
- Hyaluronic Acid Injections: For clients with arthritis or joint pain, these injections help lubricate and cushion the joints, reducing pain and improving movement.
- PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Injections: These injections use your own blood to concentrate growth factors, which can speed up healing in injured muscles, tendons, and soft tissues.
- Corticosteroid Injections: For severe inflammation, corticosteroids provide fast, effective relief, particularly in conditions like tendonitis or arthritis.
Additional Interventions for Enhanced Recovery
We understand that many of our clients in Birmingham and Solihull have tried other treatments without success. What makes our approach different?
- Timing is everything: It’s not just about giving you exercises—it’s about when we give them. We only introduce rehabilitation exercises at the right time, once pain and compensation have been addressed.
- Holistic biomechanics: We don’t just treat the site of pain. We evaluate your entire body to find and address the underlying causes.
- Collaborative care: When needed, we refer to and work closely with leading consultants in orthopaedics, neurology, and spinal care to ensure you get the best treatment.
A Solution for Stubborn Conditions
We specialise in treating stubborn and long-standing conditions like plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, and shin splints—conditions that many clients have struggled with for years. Our success lies in applying all aspects of our treatment model together. By improving tissue quality, optimising biomechanics, and strengthening key areas, we help you achieve long-term results.
Our Commitment to Your Recovery
At our practices in Birmingham and Solihull, we are fully committed to helping you achieve a significant improvement in your condition. Whether you’ve been dealing with pain for a few months or several years, we believe that with the right treatment and enough time, we can help you find relief and achieve lasting results.

She is able to pinpoint the areas causing the issues and work on them with long term plans to prevent them from reappearing. I have seen different physios over many years but I have to say her treatment is the best for me.Rebecca Brennan2024-03-05I have been going for physiotherapy at Achieve (Edgbaston) for over 4 years and continue to do so. I have seen Rickie, Jezzy and Mitzi. They are all great. Achieve was recommended to me and I have recommended them to others seeking out a physiotherapist. Not only are they both immensely knowledge and professional, but the teamwork between them also means my sessions are specific, targeted and I am always aware of the steps needed in my rehabilitation, which I have not experienced at other physiotherapy establishments! Having a gym where they can show and watch my rehab exercises is also a massive plus for me! Thanks Achieve!!!!Manjinder Singh2024-03-04Just over a year ago I decided to finally see a physio after 6months of back pain at 25! I couldn't stand up properly, sit down or lie down. I went to see Jezzie and she pretty quickly narrowed down the possibilities and got to work. Over the past year she's methodically brought me back to my best, something i've not felt for a few years, and offered plenty of exercises/workout plans to continue on my own. Now I go for maintenance appointments every quarter. Jezzie is conversational and knows her job and physiotherapy like the back of her hand, she has fountain of knowledge which puts me at ease as a client.Google rating score: 5.0 of 5, based on 239 reviews
