What Is Functional Nutrition?
Functional Nutrition applies the latest hypotheses and research in nutrition and health sciences to you and your symptoms, to enable you to achieve optimal health. Achieve Health work in close partnership with Hayley and The Health Farm. We develop a diet, lifestyle and (when required) supplement plan to support those needs. By analysing current eating patterns, nutrient intake and dietary habits, taking into consideration physical activity levels, stress, and sleep, we make tailored recommendations based on age, gender, health status, and your specific goals. We might incorporate coaching to help you put the ideas into practice in a meaningful way or break through whatever barriers have held you back in the past.
It’s a very personal approach. People are ‘biochemically unique’. That means that there isn’t a single way of eating that is right for everyone. Your DNA, previous medical history, and any current symptoms as well as what you like and don’t like, not to mention your personal circumstances, are all important when a Nutritional Therapist creates a plan for you. Functional Nutrition gets to the root of the problem rather than just managing the symptoms.
It is personalised just for you. That takes both time and skill. You could download something from the internet – if you knew what you were looking for – but it is not the same. A Nutritionist may also work with supplements targeted to a specific condition or your own health goal. This can be a minefield – potentially dangerous and inevitably costly – if you don’t know what you’re doing.

What Happens In A Functional Nutrition Consultation
Your first consultation will last up to 75 minutes. You will have been asked to complete and send back a functional nutrition questionnaire and food diary before your visit. During the session, I will review your medical history, your health goals and any other challenges you’re facing, what you generally eat, what you like to eat, what you hate to eat and how you have to eat (on the bus, in a rush at your desk, and so on). There’s no judgement and anything you share with me is kept in confidence. I will interpret any blood tests results you may already have. Following the consultation you will receive a bespoke dietary, lifestyle, and supplement plan along with recipes and personalised handouts to help you on your journey.
Recommendations for further functional testing will also be made if required. Functional testing may include blood tests, a stool test, urine and saliva analysis, and even genetic testing, which can all be carried out from the comfort and privacy of your own home. Samples are posted to the laboratory and results are usually received within 2-10 days depending on the test. Functional testing provides a greater insight into the root cause of what may be causing your symptoms and enables a personalised nutrition plan to be designed specifically for you. It can identify underlying imbalances, nutrient deficiencies and food sensitivities. The cost of any functional tests are in addition to your consultation fees.
Functional Nutrition sessions are usually programmes which run over 10 weeks. This is because it is rarely helpful for anyone to leave without the knowledge that they have follow up sessions in place to help them implement the programme, make changes at a pace that suits them, and to deal with any challenges or questions that come up along the way.
Follow up sessions involve a review of your progress, explanation of any new test result findings, updated dietary, lifestyle, and supplement recommendations based on your progress.

They have been able to both relieve muscle pain/tightness whilst giving me a bespoke training plan to improve my future health. I would certainly recommend them.Jagtar Marway2024-03-05I have been having treatment from Jezzi for for a couple of years now for different issues. She is able to pinpoint the areas causing the issues and work on them with long term plans to prevent them from reappearing. I have seen different physios over many years but I have to say her treatment is the best for me.Rebecca Brennan2024-03-05I have been going for physiotherapy at Achieve (Edgbaston) for over 4 years and continue to do so. I have seen Rickie, Jezzy and Mitzi. They are all great. Achieve was recommended to me and I have recommended them to others seeking out a physiotherapist. Definitely give them a try if you are looking for a physio.M Rai2024-03-05I’ve been seeing Rick at Achieve Health over the past few months and he’s helped tremendously with my back pain. I highly recommend Achieve Health who provide a holistic assessment and a good mix of physical therapy with self-care advice to keep potential future issues at bay.Efe Okoro2024-03-05‘Highly recommending’ Achieve Health may be a massive understatement… I am currently seeing Rickie and Beth for Physiotherapy and deep tissue work and I am super impressed! Not only are they both immensely knowledge and professional, but the teamwork between them also means my sessions are specific, targeted and I am always aware of the steps needed in my rehabilitation, which I have not experienced at other physiotherapy establishments! Having a gym where they can show and watch my rehab exercises is also a massive plus for me! Thanks Achieve!!!!Manjinder Singh2024-03-04Just over a year ago I decided to finally see a physio after 6months of back pain at 25! I couldn't stand up properly, sit down or lie down. I went to see Jezzie and she pretty quickly narrowed down the possibilities and got to work. Over the past year she's methodically brought me back to my best, something i've not felt for a few years, and offered plenty of exercises/workout plans to continue on my own. Now I go for maintenance appointments every quarter. Jezzie is conversational and knows her job and physiotherapy like the back of her hand, she has fountain of knowledge which puts me at ease as a client.Google rating score: 5.0 of 5, based on 239 reviews
